It´s hard to believe July marks one year since the opening of Dreamtime Resort´s – 201 Lake Street in the heart of Cairns!

Suzi and Philip Beaumont, the onsite Manager´s have been terribly pleased with the way the property has performed in the first year of operation. Noting that ‘it had been a challenging but successful year ’ for the Team onsite.

The newly built Hotel located just across from the Esplanade and a short walk to Cairns CBD and Restaurants has been a popular spot for travelers, resulting in very positive reviews on Tripadvisor: ‘Absolutely beautiful. 201´s unique contemporary design and luxurious room features have also been recognised by AAA, rating 201 as a 4.5 star Hotel, with it only just a couple of points off a 5 star rating.  How could you not be happy when confronted with a 40 inch plasma screen TV and a free-standing bath tub to boot???… 201 has all the bases covered!!! We´re on the countdown now til the launch of our new property in Port Douglas – Shantara Resort and Spa.

She may be named after the Goddess of Peace and Tranquility but with just a few weeks to go before opening, Shantara is a hive of activity with the final touches being put in place. Marianna and Luigi Bonomi, previously of The Meridian, Port Douglas, have been working feverishly to realise their goal of opening a 5 star property in the heart of Port which promises to be a landmark of style and indulgence.

The combination of pools and water features as well as the open design of the Reception area and walkways gives a sense of tranquillity from the moment you arrive. The rooms surround two separate free form pools giving a sense of seclusion, and are decorated with a modern fusion of Japanese and Asian styles.

The Hotel features a fully equipped Gym and you can enjoy the views across the pool as you work out. For a more relaxing effort though, you´ll be able to visit one of Shantara´s two spa rooms for an assortment of massages, body wraps and treatments using Heritage Healers Holistic Skincare range.

Rates are currently available for Shantara with bed and breakfast packages also available… of course Marianna is also happy to arrange Limo transfers too!

Another year full of challenges, with pressure on long haul travel as it is painted by some as a major source of green house gas emissions, the strongest Aussie dollar for nearly 20 years, the emergence of China as a favoured destination for the Japanese and Korean markets and the normal economic slow down that occurs in Australia immediately prior to a Federal Election. Outbound travel is seriously on the rise and we as an industry will ride a somewhat rocky road over the next 8 to 12 months. The addition to many airline fleets of the super liners over the next 18 months will be of assistance particularly in the domestic market as more aircraft become available to assist in providing additional domestic capacity. I can´t remember a year where I have not been able to complete a list of problems of this length. Maybe just once we might get a full twelve months without major hurdles to clear but I doubt it.
